It’s time for the 2021 Sikeston Rodeo Stampede Week! All Sikeston businesses have the opportunity to participate in two contests for the chance to win a Rodeo sponsorship package. Let’s see your Rodeo spirit!

Setup: 2 Contest Opportunities

Storefront Decoration Contest – Monday, August 9 (2 options!)

Parade Float Contest – Saturday, August 7

In each Go Round, points awarded to contestants and winners contributing to “All Around Gold Buckle Winner”

*All Around and Go Round winners will be recognized in the 2021 Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Program

Each Go Round:

First Go Round: Float Contest

When: Saturday, August 7th, 2021

Where: Lineup from Kindergarten and east down Salcedo Road.

How: Register for the competition at the table set up in the front lawn of the Kindergarten with a member of the Parade Committee. You may also register prior to the event by contacting the Chamber at 471-2498 emailing marcie.lawson@sikeston.net.

Register by July 30 for ONE EXTRA POINT!

Entries must be entered prior to 9:45 AM on the day of the parade. Judging occurs during the parade and judges will be located throughout the parade route.

Go Round Winner:

4 Chute Club Tickets for Thursday ($400 value)

Parking Lot Sign ($350 Value)

2nd Place: 2 Chute Club Tickets for Thursday ($200 value)

3rd Place: 8 Box Seats for Thursday ($200 Value)

Requirements

Parade number obtained upon registration must be displayed prominently on BOTH SIDES of the Parade entry. Floats without visible Parade numbers will not be judged or considered for participation points that count towards Sikeston Stampede Rodeo Week Contests.

Float must be no more than 13 feet tall

Float may be constructed on top of a vehicle or a trailer pulled on a vehicle

Float must finish the parade in the same condition in which it entered

No candy or giveaways may be thrown from the float or walkers. All items must be walked to the side of the road and handed to the recipient.

All floats must have wheels and be pulled by motor vehicle or alternatively, the motor vehicle may serve as the float

Any type of material may be used during construction so long as it doesn’t violate any environmental standards or city/state/federal ordinances. All entries must be constructed so that spectators on both sides of the street can view them. This includes decorations and trim

There is no limit to the number people allowed on the float.

Floats must participate in the parade on Saturday, August 1st in order to be eligible for points and prizes. They must finish the entire parade route.

Final judging will take place during the parade. In the event of bad weather, final judging will take place during the Parade Line-up. Judges decisions are final.

Only one float per business/organization will receive points (place or participation).

Float Judging Criteria

A panel of judges will determine the best float entries by using the following criteria. A maximum of 40 points may be earned from each of the judges

Overall Appearance (0-25 Points)

Does the float look good?

Are the decorations original or out of the ordinary?

Does the float promote spirit and support for the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo?

Does the float appropriately represent the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo?

Construction Quality (0-10 Points)

How well is the float put together?

Difficultly of the construction?

Will the float last through the parade?

Does it look safe?


Extra Points (up to 5 Points) Awarded for:

Early Registration (1 pt. max)

Moveable parts/gimmicks, encompassing traits of Sikeston in addition to rodeo/rodeo clown

Being a Sikeston Regional Chamber Member (1 pt. max)


Final Go Round: Storefront Decorations

OPTION 1: LIVE ACTION

NEW! Businesses participating in the “LIVE ACTION” option are those who plan to have employees, animals, etc. as part of their display. You will be notified when judges are on their way to your business so you can prepare.

When: Judging takes place throughout the day on Monday, August 9

Where: Your storefront – yard, windows, walkway **Only decoration and live-action outside will be considered for judging**

How: Register for the competition by calling the Chamber, 471-2498 or emailing marcie.lawson@sikeston.net.

Rules:

All displays must be set up and ready for judging by 12:00 Noon on Monday, August 9

Judges will stop by throughout the day to evaluate your display: judges will text when they are within 20 minutes of judging your business

Any type of design/material is acceptable whether it is window paint, door decorations, constructed scenes, etc.

Judging Criteria

A panel of judges will determine the best storefront decorations by using the following criteria. A maximum of 50 points may be earned from each of the judges.

Overall Appearance (0-25 Points)

Do the decorations look good? Or was it only thrown together with little planning?

Are the decorations original or out of the ordinary?

Do the decorations promote spirit and support for the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo?

Do the decorations appropriately represent the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo?

How much does it stand out and grab the attention of the public driving by?

Live-Action (0-10 Points)

How engaged were the employees? Did they seem excited about Rodeo? Happy to be a part of the contest? Did they coordinate with each other?

How interesting was the interactive component? Did they have movable parts? Music?

Was the “live-action” interesting and innovative? Did it grab your attention?

Construction Quality (0-12 Points)

How difficult was it to construct the decorations?

How well were the decorations put together?

Extra Points (up to 3) Awarded for:

Early Registration (1 pt. max)

Being a Sikeston Regional Chamber Member (1 pt. max)

Displaying an SJBR Business Sign (1 pt. max)

You may reuse your sign from last year OR you may purchase a sign by contacting your favorite printing company (Kinder Signs, Moll Printing, or FTI Printing) who all have the SJBR Business Sign design.

All purchasers of a NEW SJBR Business Sign will receive 2 FREE Tickets to Thursday of Rodeo

***Businesses are STRONGLY encouraged to leave their Storefronts decorated throughout the week of Rodeo (Aug 11-13).***

NEW! Businesses participating in the “DISPLAY ONLY” option are those who DO NOT plan to have employees, animals, etc. as part of their display. Judges will score based on your storefront only and you will NOT be notified when they are on their way.

Where: Your storefront – yard, windows, walkway **Only decorates outside will be considered for judging**

How: Register for the competition by calling the Chamber, 471-2498 or emailing marcie.lawson@sikeston.net.
